I was in 2 minds whether to leave together with Chee early in the morning or stay for another night in Ganga hotel. the reason for this is because i bought a local sim card yesterday with Airtel of 1 GB with 30 days validity. The activation somehow not working,so the need to get back to the shop to rectify. Chee left at 7.30 morning while I waited the shop to open at 9. Somehow the activation was ok, that means i am now connected and able to do posting. So i quickly pack up and start riding by 10.30am, Happy to finally can start my 1st pedal since arriving India on the 13 July, especially with all the hassle of carrying the bike box in and out the hotels and train stations. I had given my local mobile no. to Chee for keeping in touch since he left earlier. Our target is Narkanda which is about 65 km from Shimla. The weather is good with morning fog in the mountain. The climb is very gradual with 4-6% gradient, not too much of a problem, what is annoying is the road is very narrow, and the traffic keep pressing their honks, even though i already keeping very to the side. The 1st town Kurfi after 12km of climb where i had my lunch of fried rice and tea cost Rs130. Some local told me they saw a cyclist left about 1 hour ago. Feeling satisfied after the break, I pressed on hopping to catch up with Chee, but was no where to be seen.I relax a bit and enjoy the 1st descent before another climb to next town theog. My energy was running low at km 45 and one Indian retired army came to my rescue with a big cup of hot milk tea and some biscult. By 6.30pm ,i finally call it a day as i am really exhausted and needed a place to rest. The tourist Inn with very basic room and outside shower plus dinner and tomorrow breakfast for Rs 500,is really a good bargain.

Feeling good to crank my 1st pedal

In case you didn't know - honking is a natural thing in India to tell people they are there. They honk on average every minute in the town area.

Good and interesting blog, well done Sifu Meng on your first day of ride. Now I hear the honk! NVM that, it is their way of saying hello, I am behind you. You should have seen by now that there are signs at the back of trucks that reads: "Please Honk" inviting others to honk at them. Enjoy your ride.
