Today we started very early at 5.40am as soon as the sun rises, by starting early so we can finish the ride early, as today,s ride is going to be tough.Our target is Marhi which is 36 km from Manali,but we are not sure there will be any guest houses or shops still around,as ppl are saying all these had been torn down. Anyway we are prepare to camp somewhere before Marhi.Chee after a day rest is raring to go,he has a simple stuffs so is quick in packing,while i take much longer time.The ride started with the 4km roll down to the new Manali,and then just follow the sign to Rohtang pass, the climb iniatially is very gradual,still many stalls pilling on both side of the road,besides the usual Dhaba(restaurant),sundry shops,mostly are shops renting snow dresses for tourist interested to go up the snow capped mountain to skiing,paragliding etc.We had our light breakfast at the last stop in Pachang cos after this point,there won,t be any more shops as told by Chee.The climb got steeper and soon Chee was far left behind.I couldn,t wait for him as the cold quickly set in once you stop pedalling at this altitude of 2500m. I was feeling ok with my consistant speed of 3.5 - 5 kmh on my lowest gear most of the time. You just can't push with heavier gear here,this is not a place to be a hero, as you can imagine my average speed is only 5.3 kmh with almost 7 hr of riding.The road condition is consider good, as there wasn,t any heavy rain for the past weeks.The scenery is breathtaking as you moves higher and higher, there were many waterfalls from far and the many formation of rockface,decorated by the zigzaging roads,best to view from the top. By 3 pm and another 3 km to Marhi, i spotted a nice camping spot with a river beside, i quickly set up my tent for the 1st time,in a spot easily be seem by Chee. At the same time, I fired up my stove for some hot tea and hot water for body cleaning.Chee turn up one hour behind,in time to enjoy one small bowl of hot Nescafe from me.Dinner I just cooked a simple porridge mixed with a pack of maggi and a hard boiled egg. As there wasn't any line coverage ,so went to sleep early in a very cold night.
